Frequently Asked Questions
We know that the adoption process can be a bit daunting, and it's not something that we want you to enter into without fully understanding all of the aspects of pet "ownership." After all, you're committing to loving and providing a safe environment for a dog or cat for the rest of their lives! As such, we've put together a few FAQs to help you understand the process:
Is there a cost to adopt a pet?
Yes - typically between $150-$250. Although it is more important for us to find the best homes for our rescues, we need to ensure that we can continue to rescue animals in need. We do not receive any financial assistance from government or corporate entities, and instead rely fully on donations. Your adoption fee will ensure that we can rescue the next animal!
What food should I feed my rescue?
At Roo's Rescues, we feed all of our animals Hill's Science Diet food. It is very important that you feed your rescue a high quality food to ensure proper development and nutrition.
Where do your rescues come from?
We have taken in rescues from a variety of situations, including owner surrenders and strays, as well as from partnerships with local shelters and rescue organizations. Check out the individual animal's bio to learn more about how they came to Roo's Rescues.
I found an animal in need of help - what should I do?
First, think about the safety of you, the animal and those around you. An animal in an unfamiliar situation can be unpredictable. If you find a stray animal, we recommend that you call your local animal control for help. Animal control facilities can quickly and painlessly scan a stray animal for a microchip and potentially reunite a lost animal with their family. If you're unsure what to do, or need any help, give us a call!
I'm looking for a specific breed, do you ever get in (insert breed) ?
The world of rescuing is nothing if not unpredictable! We never know what the day will bring! Although it's impossible for us to know exactly what animals we'll have in house at any given time, we do have connections throughout the tri-state area, and can help find you the animal of your dreams! Reach out to us, let us know what you're looking for and let us find it for you in a local shelter. We'll work with that animal for a short period of time to help with training and socialization as needed, and then you'll be ready to take home your furrrrrever friend!
How old does a kitten/puppy need to be for adoption?
At a minimum, animals need to be 8 weeks old before going to a new home.
How do I know if a cat/dog will get along with current animals?
Because animals can be curious little creatures, we do ask that you bring any current animals to our facility for a trial introduction before bringing a rescue home. As we all know, first impressions are everything! We have experience with new pet introductions, and can help translate dog/cat speak!
What if it doesn't work out with an animal I rescued?
When you make a commitment to rescue an animal from Roo's Rescues, we also make a commitment to you that we will be with you every step of the way. Whether it's coming to your home to help with introductions, helping with training or just offering advice - we're here for you! If you find that it absolutely won't work - we'll always welcome our rescues back, no questions asked.
